What is a Registered Agent?
The Registered Agent for your Corporation or LLC must be located at a legal address (not a P.O. box) within the state.
Example: A Texas-incorporated company wants to do business in California but does not want the expense of setting up a physical office or branch in California in order to comply with that state’s “physical presence” laws. (California law requires that any company doing business in that state maintain a physical presence—a legal mailing address—in California where it can receive official communications via mail from the state government.) So the Texas company hires West Coast Registered Agents, LLC to be their representative in California and receive all official communication from the California state government at the Agent’s place of business. The Registered Agent then forwards those mailings to the Texas company’s corporate office. WestCoast registered Agents, LLC is not an employee of the Texas company but is contracted on a fee basis to provide representative services for the company in California.
